Have you considered doing a double wall construction for your envelope? That's what I'm doing with the Shift Home (www.theshifthome.com) as a means to get the walls to R40. There's also an interesting product from Regina called PanBrick that is an insulating brick veneer. It adds about R12, so you can achieve R34 with a single 2x6 construction.
